Yes. Chicken and egg problem again - if we were incorporated, the
trust/society could sign it, without personal liability. Would it help 
if a couple of us co-signed? (I'm assuming they'd accept that.)

Me too. But the 15-member minimum requirement is a pain. Though there 
might be a small loophole we could use to our advantage, in that a 
corporate body (companies/trusts/other societies) can be a member, and 
each corporate body member counts as 3 members. Source:
