Welcome back, I hope everyone had a great holiday. Today's a special day - we
nominally move in to our space today - really though today is when we need to
start the period of preparation that will set up our workshop and get us to the
point where we have a functioning space - we have about 3 months to get things
up and running and to the point where we have enough members to pay the rent

At the moment Aldo is organising our online presence, he's registered
www.dspace.org.nz and pointed it at a server that's been volunteered by Blair,
we'll be transitioning a lot of our temporary infrastructure to Google Docs -
we'll also be moving the mailing list there soon, so please sign up as soon as
you get the invite - we'll be shutting down this list a bit after that.

This Sunday (Jan 16th) we're going to hold a planning meeting in the maker space
at 2pm - we'll talk for a bit then order some pizza and beer - if you can,
please bring a chair as we're quite short (even better leave it if you have one
or two you don't need).

(Again our address is Room 114 King Edward Court - the old Tech building at
Stuart St and York Place - walk in the main front entrance, up the stairs, turn
right and follow the passage way as far as you can go)

We have two goals for Sunday - starting to build the workshop and forward
planning:

Up until now we've discouraged people from bringing in lots of stuff until we
can get a bit organised - now's your chance to bring in any tools you might want
to donate - we think that tools that are in the space will be of 3 types:

   1) tools that have been donated to the maker space
   2) tools that have been loaned to the space - we'll take the best
care we can of them but this has to be at the owner's risk
   3) private tools people bring for their own use, again at your
own risk - please keep them in a tool box or some equivalent,
      mark them if you can

We'll find a way to mark the first two types of tools - people may want to
consider loaning us tools in the short term and then donating them to us once we
get our non-profit charity status all squared away

As I mentioned above we need chairs, we're pretty well set up for benches at the
moment, a couch or two, a coffee table and a fridge would be useful if anyone
has them.

So please start bringing in that stuff on Sunday, check in as we're going to
keep an inventory - there's a fine line between filling the place with tools and
junk and we're going to have to be careful, please don't be offended if we turn
something away because we already have a couple. Please don't plan on brining in
broken tools unless fixing them is a project you'd like to start working on
right away

We also need to start planning how we're going to use the space - what will we
be doing? what days will we be open? who will be there -this is something
everyone needs to be involved with. On Sunday I plan on leading a bit of a brain
storming around these issues - so please bring along those ideas - what do you
want from a makerspace or hackerspace? what can you offer? got a project you'd
like to explore? what times of the week are good for you?

I understand that some people are still on holiday, don't worry you're not
missing out, we'll probably repeat this exercise every few months in some form

	see you all on Sunday

	Paul
