No strong opinion on the name, but simple and clear sound good.  I like
makerspace over hackerspace.

The Albatross sounds like a good mascot, very fitting for Dunedin.

I second the use of Google Apps for the domain.  I have been testing it for
use at my work, and it seems pretty good for email, calendar, and document
sharing/colaboration.  There can also be multiple administrator accounts
which might be useful.

I have not experience with using it for a mailing list, so can't comment on
that.

I think there is the ability to publish web pages with Google Apps also, but
I think a wiki on a separate host will work better for our needs.
